Backsberg Shiraz: Wine Spectator's Pick of the Day

Backsberg Shiraz 2004 was chosen as the Wine Spectator's Pick of the Day for the USD$15-30 range.

From the Wine Spectator:

BACKSBERG Shiraz Paarl Pumphouse 2004 (88 points, $21)

Dark and smoky, with charcoal and tar notes leading the way for dark plum and currant fruit. The burly, grainy finish should soften with moderate cellaring. Drink now through 2009. 600 cases imported. --James Molesworth

Have a good week.

I fell in love with South African wines at the Wines of South Africa show in London when I was buying for the restaurant and bar I was then managing. I am intrigued by wine, hoping to learn more about it and so at home, he and I have wine tasting dinners when we try out new food and wine combinations. I am thoroughly looking forward to reading your blog, learning about your winery etc, so the more factual the better. Gives me a little chance to show off when we are out for dinner. Keep up the good work

Hi Rach,

Thanks, points noted. Also, funny you should mention lamb and Pinotage because that is exactly what my latest post is about!

Other good news from a food and wine comb perspective is that a cooking school- The Culinary Academy - has relocated from Cape Town to the farm recently, so I hope to be posting specific food and wine pairings on the blog in the near future.
